Black Cassock Violet Trim & Pellegrina | Monsignor Custom Soutane

The Vestment of Rank. Tailored to Yours.

This Custom Black Cassock with Violet Trim & Pellegrina is the traditional dress of the monsignor — handcrafted to your exact measurements and finished with the violet piping, buttons, and shoulder cape that distinguish the Papal Household chaplain and honorary prelate. Every stitch is placed by our master vestment tailors, delivering a garment that honours your calling with the precision it deserves.

— CHOOSE YOUR ENSEMBLE —

Available in three configurations — select the level of formality your ministry requires:

  • Cassock with Violet Trim — Full-length Roman cassock with violet piping, buttons, and cuff detail. The classic foundation piece.
  • Cassock + Pellegrina — Add the matching violet-trimmed elbow-length shoulder cape (pellegrina) for the complete monsignor silhouette. Detachable for versatility.
  • Complete Monsignor Ensemble — Cassock + Pellegrina + Violet Fascia Cincture. Ceremonially complete from collar to cuff. The full insignia of rank, tailored to your body.

— CRAFTSMANSHIP & DETAIL —

  • Fabric: Premium quality fabric — structured, durable, and suitable for year-round liturgical wear
  • Lining: Full silk inner lining for smooth drape and all-day comfort
  • Buttons: 33 violet fabric-covered buttons — representing the 33 years of Christ's earthly life, as per Roman Catholic tradition
  • Piping: Violet trim stitched along collar, front placket, cuffs, and matching pellegrina edge
  • Pockets: Two side pockets with pleated covers; cincture/fascia loops available on request (note in order)
  • Pellegrina: Elbow-length shoulder cape, open in front, attaches to cassock collar via hooks — detachable for versatility

— BESPOKE TAILORING — INCLUDED FREE —

Every ZARB cassock is made from scratch to your measurements at no additional charge. After ordering, include your measurements in the order notes: Neck circumference, Chest, Belly/Waist, Height, and Sleeve length. Our vestment specialists will review your measurements before cutting begins and will contact you if any clarification is needed. We do not use pre-cut standard patterns — your cassock is drafted from your numbers alone.

— PRODUCTION & DELIVERY —

  • Production: 5–11 working days from confirmed measurements
  • Delivery to USA: 5–9 business days after dispatch (typically 2–3 weeks total)
  • Delivery to UK & Europe: 4–7 business days after dispatch
  • Worldwide tracking included on all orders

— CARE INSTRUCTIONS —

Dry clean recommended to preserve the violet trim, piping alignment, and button integrity. For home care: hand wash in cold water with a pH-neutral detergent. Lay flat or hang on a wide hanger to dry. Do not tumble dry. Iron on a low setting from the reverse side, away from buttons and piping.

— FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS —

Why does a monsignor's cassock have violet trim?: Violet piping and buttons on a black cassock are the specific rank insignia for Chaplains of His Holiness (Papal Household), the lowest tier of the monsignorate. This distinguishes them from bishops (amaranth/red trim) and cardinals (scarlet trim). Knowing this rank distinction is something ZARB builds into every garment we make.

Is this suitable for a Catholic priest in England or Ireland?: Yes. Since 1850, Catholic priests in England, Wales, Scotland, Ireland, Australia, and New Zealand have traditionally worn a pellegrina with their cassock — a privilege granted by Pope Pius IX. This cassock with pellegrina is the traditional garment of that style.

Does the cassock have 33 buttons?: Yes. The standard configuration is 33 fabric-covered violet buttons, representing the 33 years of Christ's earthly life as per Roman Catholic tradition. If you require a different button count (such as 39 for Anglican tradition), please note this in your order.

Are cincture loops included?: Cincture/fascia loops are not standard, but can be added at no extra charge. Simply note 'please add cincture loops' in your order notes.

Can I add a fascia/sash separately?: Yes. The violet fascia (cincture/sash) is available as part of the Complete Monsignor Ensemble variant, or as a separate add-on. See our Fascia listing or note your requirement at checkout.

How long does delivery take to the USA?: Production is 5–11 working days. Delivery to the USA takes a further 4–9 business days — approximately 2–3 weeks total. Import duties may apply on arrival.

Can you make this for multiple clergy in a parish or seminary?: Yes. We welcome institutional and group orders. Please contact us before ordering to discuss pricing and coordinated production timelines.
